A well-established manufacturing company in Tanzania is seeking an experienced, commercially strong, and target-driven Head of Sales – Metals Division to lead its sales function, expand market presence, and drive revenue growth.
The company manufactures and supplies metal and construction-related products including wire nails, weldmesh, BRC mesh, chain-link fences, barbed wire, steel tubes, roofing sheets, and other related products.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, manage, and motivate a sales team of approximately 20 members. Report directly to the Chief Executive Officer. Develop and execute sales strategies for the Metals Division. Drive annual sales growth and contribute towards targets of approximately USD 50-75 million per annum. Build and manage relationships with distributors, dealers, wholesalers, contractors, project clients, and key accounts. Identify and develop new business opportunities across Tanzania and other African markets. Increase market share for wire products, fencing materials, mesh products, steel tubes, roofing sheets, and related construction materials. Monitor market trends, competitor activity, pricing, product demand, and customer requirements. Prepare sales forecasts, market reports, sales performance reports, and revenue plans for management. Set targets for the sales team, monitor performance, and implement improvement plans. Coordinate with production, logistics, finance, and management teams for timely order fulfilment and customer satisfaction. Develop pricing strategies, channel-partner plans, sales incentives, and customer-retention initiatives. Ensure effective collections, credit control, and commercial risk management. Recruit, train, coach, and develop sales professionals.
Candidate Requirements
Minimum 7 years of relevant sales experience in metals, steel, construction materials, building materials, industrial products, or related sectors. African-market sales experience is mandatory. Candidates must have proven work experience selling products within Tanzania or other African countries. Strong experience in selling products such as wire nails, weldmesh, BRC mesh, chain-link fencing, barbed wire, steel tubes, roofing sheets, steel products, or related construction materials. Proven experience managing sales teams, distributors, dealers, wholesalers, and key accounts. Demonstrated ability to achieve challenging sales, revenue, and market-expansion targets. Strong business development, negotiation, leadership, commercial-management, and customer-relationship skills. Candidates from Tanzania, other African countries, India, or other nationalities may apply, provided they have relevant African-market experience. Confident, aggressive, self-driven, commercially focused, and target-oriented personality. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Engineering, Sales, or a related field is preferred. Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Swahili or other African regional languages will be an advantage.
Salary and Benefits
Salary: USD 1,500 to USD 3,000 per month, depending on relevant experience, product knowledge, leadership capability, and African-market exposure. Performance-based sales incentive, commission, or bonus. Accommodation provided at the company premises. Company transport provided. Medical benefits as per company policy.
